Bladen County, NC – Elizabeth - Act For Court House, 1827 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to authorise the commissioners therein named to purchase a site for a new Court House in the county of Bladen, and for other purposes Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That William H. Beatty, Isaac Wright, Thomas Smith, James Smith and David Lloyd, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners, with authority to purchase (provided the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of the county of Bladen shall so direct them) a suitable site, within the limits of the town of Elizabeth, whereon to erect a new Court House, together with as much ground adjoining thereto, or one or more lots, as they may think necessary for the public use and convenience; for which they shall take a good and sufficient title in fee simple, executed to themselves as commissioners, for the benefit of the county. And be it further enacted, That the said commissioners be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered (should it be deemed necessary by the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of the county of Bladen,) to expose to public sale, at such time and upon such terms, first advertising the same for one month, as to them may seem most advisable, the Court House, and lot on which it stands, in the town of Elizabeth; the proceeds of said sale to be paid over by the said commissioners to the Treasurer of Public Buildings of said county, for the use of the county. And be it further enacted, That the said commissioners, or a majority of them, are hereby authorised and empowered to execute to the purchaser or purchasers of the said lot and Court House, a good and sufficient title in fee simple, upon the said purchaser or purchasers first complying with the terms of the sale, as agree upon and established by the said commissioners. And be it further enacted, That such expenses as may be incurred in carrying into effect the provision of this act, be paid out of the county funds, as the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of said county may direct.
