This bill of sale was acknowledged, registered and recorded in registers 
office Bladen County, NC Book 1 page 306 February 2, 1819 
           
State of No Carolina Bladen County:  Know all Men by their presents that I 
Thomas Brown of the county and state aforesaid for and in consideration of the 
sum of $500.00 current money to me in hand paid by John Owen of the county and 
state aforesaid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledgeable, have granted 
bargained and sold and by then presents do grant, bargain, and sell to the 
said John Owen his heirs and assigns forever a certain negro girl named Chleo 
to have and to hold to the said John Owen the said bargained promise to him 
his heirs and assigne forever. And the said Thomas Brown for hisself his 
heirs. Execulor & Administratot, the said bargained promises to the said John 
Owen his heirs and assigns forever, will warrent and forever defend.    
witness my hand & seal this second day of February 1819.
