Bladen County, NC - Joseph Cain Land Grant, 1769 ~~~~~~~~~~ LAND GRANT --- JOSEPH CAIN ____teenth December 1769 No. 57 George the Third by the Grace of God of Great-Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting. KNOW YE, That We, for and in Consideration of the Rents and Duties herein reserved, HAVE Given and granted, and by these Presents, for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, DO give and grant unto Joseph Cain a Tract of Land containing Four hundred Acres, lying and being in the County of Bladen in our Province of NORTH CAROLINA. S.W. of the N.W. River lying back of Joseph and William Cains Lands Begining at a Pine said to be Joseph Cains upperback corner and Runs as his line S15 E 22 chains & 25 links to a stake among 3 Pines Pointers in or near William Cains line Then as is S45 W 35 Chains, then as his other line S15 E 27 Chains & 50 links, Then S45 W 64 chains 77 links, Thence S45 E 99 chains and 77 links to the beginning. As by the Plat hereunto annexed doth appear; together with all Woods, Waters, Mines, Minerals, Herediments and Appurtenances to the said Land belonging or appertaining, (one Halh of all Gold and Silver mines excepted;) To hold to him the said Joseph Cain his Heirs and assigns, for ever, as our Manor of East-Greenwich, in our County of Kent, in free and common Soccage, by Fealty only: YIELDING AND PAYING, unto Us, our Heirs and Successors, for ever, the Yearly Rent of Four Schillings Proclamation-Money, for every Hundred Acres hereby granted; to be paid, unto Us, our Heirs and Successors, on the Second Day of February in each Year, at such Places in our said Province, as our Governor, for the Time being, with the advice and consent of our Council, shall think fit to direct and appoint. Provided always, That in Case the said Joseph Cain his Heirs and Assigns, shall not, within Three Years from date hereof, clear and cultivate, according to the Proportion of Three acres for every Hundred; and also that it a Minute or Docket of these our Letters Patent, shall not be entered in the Office of our Auditor General, for the Time being, in our said Province, within Six Months from the date hereof; that then, and in either of the said Cases these our Letters Patent shall be void, and of none Effect. IN TESTIMONY whereof, we have caused the Seal of our said Provinvce to be hereunto affixed. WITNESS our trusty and well-beloved William Tryon, Esq; Captain-General, and Governor in Chief in and over our said Province this ___teenth Day of December in the Tenth Year of our Reign, Anno Domini 1769.
