Bladen County, NC - Samuel Cain Land Grant, 1755 ~~~~~~~~~~ LAND GRANT --- SAMUEL CAIN 31 March 1755 No. 124 George the Second by the Grace of God of Great-Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting. Know ye, That We, for and in Consideration of the Rents and Duties herein reserved, have Given and granted, and by these Presents, for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, DO give and grant unto Samuel Cain a Tract of Land containing One Hundred and Fifty Acres, lying and being in the County of Bladen in our Province of NORTH CAROLINA on Goodman's Swamp Beginning at a small red oak on the east side of said Swamp at _ the ____ of Goodman's Ditch runing So 65 Wt 100 Poles ____ the Swamp to a pine bush then ____ _____ pole to a Pine Fence ___Et 150 pole to a pine then ___ ____ pole to a stake thence to the first Station As by the Plat hereunto annexed doth appear; together with all Woods, Waters, Mines, Minerals, Herediments and Appurtenances to the said Land belonging or appertaining, (one Halh of all Gold and Silver mines excepted;) To hold to him the said Samuel Cain his Heirs and assigns, for ever, as our Manor of East-Greenwich, in our County of Kent, in free and common Soccage, by Fealty only: YIELDING AND PAYING, unto Us, our Heirs and Successors, for ever, the Yearly Rent of Four Schillings Proclamation-Money, for every Hundred Acres hereby granted; to be paid, unto Us, our Heirs and Successors, on the Second Day of February in each Year, at such Places in our said Province, as our Governor, for the Time being, with the advice and consent of our Council, shall think fit to direct and appoint. Provided always, That in Case the said Samuel Cain his Heirs and Assigns, shall not, within Three Years from date hereof, clear and cultivate, according to the Proportion of Three acres for every Hundred; and also that it a Minute or Docket of these our Letters Patent, shall not be entered in the Office of our Auditor General, for the Time being, in our said Province, within Six Months from the date hereof; that then, and in either of the said Cases these our Letters Patent shall be void, and of none Effect. IN TESTIMONY whereof, we have caused the Seal of our said Provinvce to be hereunto affixed. WITNESS our trusty and well-beloved ARTHUR DOBBS, Esq; Captain-General, and Governor in Chief in and over our said Province this 31st Day of March in the _____ Year of our Reign, Anno Domini One Thousand and Seven Hundred and Fifty five.
