BLADEN COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - Nathan Horn To John Smith Sr., 30 Apr 1774 ----¤¤¤---- NATHAN HORN DEED TO JOHN SMITH SR Bladen County, NC 1774 Deed Book 23, No. 395, pages 516, 517 This indenture made Apr 30th AD 1774 between Nathan Horn of Bladen Co. province North Carolina of the one part & John Smith Sr of the same Co. aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the aforesaid Nathan Horn for & in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds proc money to him in hand paid by the aforesaid John Smith the receipt whereof he the aforesaid Nathan Horn doth hereby acknowledge & hereby doth fully freely & absolutely acquit & forever discharge the aforesaid John Smith his heirs Exrs* Admrs* assigns by these presents hath given granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell alien enfeoff convey & confirm unto the aforesaid John Smith a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county aforesaid in Flowers Swamp between Tadpole & Drowning Creek Beginning at a White Oak said to be Edward Flowers upper line west of said swamp & running thence N.15 W.60 chs [chains] 90 lks [links] to James Blounts line thence with it S. 70 W. 29 chs to a pine his corner then with another line N. 20 W. 126 chs 53 lks then S. 70 W.27 chs. 70 lks then S. 20 E Passing by the corner of another survey of Edward Flowers 176 chs then direct to the beginning containing 640 acres To have and to hold the said bargained premises hereby granted or mentioned to be granted with al land singular their appurtenances & every part & parcel thereof unto the said John Smith his heirs & assigns forever and that free and clear from all manner of encumbrances whatsoever the one half of all gold and silver mines together with the quit rents on the said bargained land excepted and Reserved to the use of his Majesty and successors forever And the aforesaid Nathan Horn for himself his heirs Exrs* Admrs* doth covenant promise and grant to and with the said John Smith his heir s& assigns by these presents that he the aforesaid Nathan Horn & his heirs the here by granted premises & every part & parcel thereof with the appurtnances unto the aforesaid John Smith his heirs & assigns against him the said Nathan Horn his heirs & assigns & against and every person & persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents And further that the aforesaid Nathan Horn & his heirs & all & every person or persons that the aforesaid Nathan Horn & his heirs & all every person or persons whatsoever claiming or lawfully claiming or that shall or may at any time or times hereafter do have or claim an right title or interest of in or to the said prebargained premises or any part thereof by from or under him them or any of them upon the reasonable request cost & charges in the law of the said John Smith his heirs & assigns shall & will sign seal & deliver any such further & other instrument or instrument of writing whatsoever for the further & better assurance & confirmation of the hereby granted premises with the appurtenances unto the aforesaid John Smith his heirs & assigns forever as by him or them or by his or their counsel learned in the law shall or may be reasonably devised advised or required In witness whereof the said party hath hereunto set his hand and seal Nathan Horn [signed w/signature] (Seal) Signed sealed & delivered May Term 1774 Saml Smith John Rowland Proved by Samuel Smith Ordered it be registered Alfred Moore, Clk [Note: * denotes raised letter] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright.
