Smith to Gooden E. Bowen This indenture made this the twentyth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty two Between Thomas C. Smith of the one part and Gooden E. Bowen of the other part Both of County of Bladen and state of North Carolina witnesseth that the said Thomas C. Smith for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Gooden E. Bowen the Receipt is hereby acknowledged Have granted bargained conveyed & by these presents do grant bargain convey and confirm unto the said Gooden E. Bowen his heirs & assignes for Ever a certain piece or parcel of land situated lying and being in the White oak swamp in the County and state aforesaid and on the North East side of the North west River Beginning at a spruce pine in a pond & Running north forty four west twenty four chains & fifty links to a Litewood stake in the Edge of Buckle swamp, three gums, three cypresses and three bays pointes thence south six west fifty one chs. to a gum in the white oak swamp. three gums & three ashes pointers thence south forty six East twenty four chs. & fifty lks to a bay a Maple and Gum & Ashe & cypress pointes in said swamp thence North forty six East forty nine chains to the Beging containg one hundred and twenty one acres more or less being a part of a four hundred acre Survey granted to Peter Burdeaux the ninth of March seventeen hundred & ninty nine to have and to hold all and singularly the premisses Evry part and parcel there of all the appertanances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto him the said Gooden E. Bowen his heirs and assignes forever to there only proper use benefit and Behoof and the said Thomas C. smith for himself his heirs Execs Adms the said bargained premises & Evry part thereof against the lawful claims or claims of any person or persons what so Ever unto him the said Gooden E. Bowen his heirs & assignes shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents In witness whereof I the said Ths C. Smith have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & dat above writen. Thomas C.
