Butler ==================================================================== Bladen County Deed Book 8 page 308 This indenture made the 10th day of January and in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty-Four. Between Thomas Smith, Sr. Planter, of the one part and Joab Smith of the other part, both of the County of Bladen and the State of North Carolina. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Smith for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Dollars to him in hand paid by the said Joab Smith at and before the signing sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Joab Smith one piece of land, One Hundred Acres, it being part of a One Hundred and Eighty acre survey granted Thomas Smith, Sr. conveyed to Thomas,Jr. and from Thomas Smith,Jr. to Joab Smith. The above tract of land bounded as follows lying and being in the County of Bladen and the State aforesaid on the South side of Beaverdam Swamp. Beginning at a pine the second corner of the Hundred and Eighty acre survey and runs with the said line S 16 W 40 chains to the 3rd corner then with 3rd line N 74 W 25 chains to a stake then N 16 E 40 chains to a stake then S 74 E 25 chains to the Beginning. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained land and premises with all appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said Joab Smith his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Smith do covenant for himself his heirs and assigns to Warrant and forever defend the aforesaid parcel of land to the said Joab Smith his heirs and assigns forever more from all claims of all other persons whatsoever.
