War of 1812 Lowndes Co., Ala., before Beverly A. Walker, a JP, came James Cheshier who stated he was well acquainted with Mrs. Rebecca Davis, widow Sampson Davis, dec'd and said he knew Sampson Davis and his said widow in the state of North Carolina, Bladen Co., before their marriage and was intimately acquainted with them up to the death of Sampson Davis, husband of Rebecca Davis, who is an applicant for Bounty Land under the Act of March 3, 1855. He further said that he knew them to live together as man and wife & never heard the validity of their marriage called in question and he further said that he now knows the said Rebecca Davis & knows her to be a widow at this time and has never been married since the death of her husband, Sampson Davis, which took place in the spring of 1855. Sworn & subscribed before me this James Cheshire 27 day of October 1856 - Beverly A. Walker Declaration for Bounty Land - Montgomery Co., Ala. On 13 Jan. 1852, before Thos. Durden, JP, came Sampson Davis, aged 70 years, a resident of Lowndes Co., Ala. And declares that he was a private in the Company commanded by Capt. Nicholson in the NC Regt. Of Volunteers, commanded by Col. Livingston in the War of 1812, that he volunteered at Elizabethtown, NC some day of July 1812 for 6 mos. And served five and a half mos. And was honorably discharged at Fort Johnson some day in Dec. 1812, as will appear by the Muster Rolls of said company and that he has lost or destroyed his discharge and that he has never rec's any Bounty nor is he entitled to any under any other act of Congress. Thomas Bullard, of Lowndes Co., Ala. Also testified for Rebecca Davis on 23 Oct. 1856 before Beverly A. Walker, JP/ Lowndes Co., Ala. On 10 May 1855 before C.W. Cottingham, JP, Rebecca Davis, aged about 65 years who made same declaration of service for the purpose of obtaining bounty land. She desires that when issued, the warrant be sent to Hickory Grove, Montgomery, Ala. Signed - Rebecca (X) Davis Witnesses: Franklin Armstrong John Bird. Lowndes Co., Ala. On 14 Nov. 1850, before Beverly A. Walker, came Sampson Davis, age 68 (repeats service).
