The case against A. J. J. Perry and C. L. Perry, charged with the murder of Stephen Johnson, colored, on December 4, 1896, was set for trial Thursday morning. The defendants were arraigned and a special venire of 100 drawn from the jury box. The state is represented by C M McLean with Solicitor Sewell, and the defendants by C C Lyon and R S White, of the local bar, and C B Aycock, John D Kerr and D B Sutton, visiting attorneys. This is the only capital case, and it promises to be one of the most important tried in Bladen county for many years, owing to the prominent and large connections of the defendants in the county.
