Fleming Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Cain, 77, who died Saturday morning at her home in Abbottsburg were conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from her church at Abbottsburg, with interment beside her husband who passed on several years ago. A long procession followed the remains from the home to the church and on to the family cemetery. Services were conducted by the writer, a former pastor. She was a ripe Christian, a mother beloved, a neighbor and friend of unsurpassed devotion and kindness, a loyal, faithful and untiring church member. In her influence and character she will live on and on "till the perfect day". "Jesus Lover of My Soul", "Asleep in Jesus" and "Sometime We'll Understand" were sung at the church; "The Beautiful River" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" at the grave. The flowers were placed by her granddaughters, Misses Ruth Averitt, Theo, Elsie, Matilda and Mary Ruth Cain, Elizabeth Smith, Bertha and Esther Wabberson. Pallbearers were: honorary her sons-in-law, R.H. Hood, G.W. Smith, and A.C.H. Wabberson, deacons of her church, J.T. Averitt, J.C. Atkinson, J.K. Baldwin, J.D. McKeithan, and J.A. Singletary; active - Carl Cook, Lida Blackman, Horrell Hood, Leon Parker, Bud McKeithan, Albert Todd. Surviving are: daughters - Mrs. A.C.H. Wabberson, Bladenboro, Mrs. J.T. Averitt, Mrs. G.W. Smith and Miss Mamie Cain, Abbottsburg; sons - Mr. Spurgeon, Laurenburg and Mr. Walter, Abbottsburg. There is quite a number of grandchildren. Mrs. Cain was a great woman on account of her gentleness, which makes any one great who will let it. She was a great sufferer with an awful cancer, but she bore it with indescribable patience. "She was a prudent wife whose price is far above rubies."
