Mr. William M. Monroe Dies After Long Illness

	Tar Heel, March 16. Mr. William M. Monroe, age 79, died at his home 
here March 3 after an illness of nearly 2 years and being confined to his bed 
and rolling chair during this time. He was taken much worse off about 2 weeks 
before his death and grew continually worse from that time.
	Mr. Monroe was born at Tar Heel and lived his whole life in this 
community. He was a consistent Christian character and a member and deacon of 
Tar Heel Baptist Church. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Sallie Averitt of 
Tar Heel, Mrs. H.M. McNeill of Clarkton; 4 sons, J.D., G.R., E.J., and W.J., 
all of Tar Heel, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren.
	Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.L. Byrd at the family 
burying ground and interment was made Friday morning, a large number of 
friends and relatives were present to pay their last respects. The floral 
offerings were many and beautiful.
