Yarbrough hhyarbrough@embarqmail.com June 30, 2008, 7:56 pm Newspaper Thursday, March 17, 1932 The Robesonian Mr. William M. Monroe Dies After Long Illness Tar Heel, March 16. Mr. William M. Monroe, age 79, died at his home here March 3 after an illness of nearly 2 years and being confined to his bed and rolling chair during this time. He was taken much worse off about 2 weeks before his death and grew continually worse from that time. Mr. Monroe was born at Tar Heel and lived his whole life in this community. He was a consistent Christian character and a member and deacon of Tar Heel Baptist Church. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Sallie Averitt of Tar Heel, Mrs. H.M. McNeill of Clarkton; 4 sons, J.D., G.R., E.J., and W.J., all of Tar Heel, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.L. Byrd at the family burying ground and interment was made Friday morning, a large number of friends and relatives were present to pay their last respects. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
