1850 Federal Census of Bladen County, NC

Schedule 1.  Free inhabitants in subdivision on NE side of Cape Fear, 
in the County of Bladen, State of NC, enumerated by me on the 31st day 
of July, 1850.  
Neill Kelly, Assistant Marshall.

NOTE: Dwelling houses numbered in the order of visitation.  The name 
of every person whose usual place of abode on the first day of June, 
1850, was in this family.

The value of Enoch's real estate was $600.  None of the adults in the 
household could read or write.

Enoch Burdeaux was probably enumerated on or about the 1st of June, 1850 
as the above records states.  Martha Jane Bordeaux was born 24 February, 
1850.  She would have been just over 3 months old around the 1st of June, 
1850.  This confirms that the recorded date would be on or just after 
the 1st June, 1850.

The 1860 record shows Enoch as 40 years of age.  This is a 2 year 
deviation from the previous 1850 record.  It could be assumed that in 
his advanced years, Enoch gave an age that was at least one year off.  
If Enoch was born in the later part of June or the early part of July 
in the year 1821, then his age would indeed have been 28 on the 1850 
census.  He would have turned 29 years of age immediately after the 
1850 record was taken.  Thus, if his 1860 household was recorded in 
late June or early July, he would have advanced from age 38 to 39; 
that is, if he was born in June or July of 1821.
 
Based on the above records, I would conclude that Enoch Bordeaux was 
born in June or July of 1821.
