John Wingate - 1842 - Bladen County, NC - Wills Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Butch Butler 10 May 1842 Will of John Wingate Bladen County Wills Book 1, pg.146 I, John Wingate of the County of Bladen and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say. * Ist- That any executor therein after named shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses and just debts howsoever and to whomsoever owing and of the monies that may first come into his hands as a part or parcel of my estate. * 2nd- I give and bequeath unto my grandchildren Hayes F. Shipman, Maria J. Shipman, Caroline F. Hollingsworth, Lucy A. McDaniel, Emily H. Shipman, John D. Shipman, Florilla D. Shipman, Andrew J. Shipman, and James Shipman children of my beloved daughter, Dorcas Shipman all the estate I may be possessed of consisting of notes, money, etc. to be equally divided and paid over to them by my executor in equal proportion share and share alike in the manner and form following. * 3rd- I give and bequeath unto my grandson Hayes F. Shipman his share as aforesaid of my estate to be taken by him at the expiration of two years from and after the probate hereof to be his and at his disposal absolutely forever. * 4th- I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Maria J. Shipman, single woman, her share as aforesaid of my estate to be paid over to her from and two years after the probate hereof to be hers and at her disposal absolutely forever. * 5th- I give and bequeath unto my daughter Caroline Frances, wife of Joseph Hollingsworth, to be paid over to her by my executor in like manner as the last bequest to be hers and at her disposal absolutely forever her share in like manner as aforesaid of my estate. * 6th- I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter,[Lucy],wife of Thomas McDaniel, her share as aforesaid of my estate to be paid over to her by my executor in the same manner as the other two bequests to be her disposal absolutely forever. * 7th- I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Emily Helen Shipman, single woman, her share as aforesaid of my estate to be paid over to her by my executor in the same manner as the above bequests. * 8th- I give and bequeath unto my grandson John D. Shipman his share as aforesaid of my estate to be paid over to him as my executor and his father may think best, suited to his interest to wit: either to be expended in educating him, or to be put To lawful interest by my executor from and after the expiration of two years from the probate hereof and paid over to him when he arrives at the age of twenty one years to be his and at his disposal absolutely forever. * 9th- I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Florilla Dorcas Shipman (infant) her share as aforesaid of my estate to be paid over to her in the same manner subject to the same discretion of my executor and her father as the bequest to John D. Shipman to be hers and at her disposal absolutely forever. * 10th- I give and bequeath unto my grandson Andrew Jackson Shipman(infant) his share as aforesaid of my estate to be paid over to him by my executor in the same manner subject to the discretion of my executor and his father as the bequest to John D. Shipman to be his and at his disposal forever. * 11th- And I give and bequeath unto my grandson James Shipman(infant) his share as aforesaid his share of my estate to be paid over to him in the same manner subject to the same discretion of my executor and his father as the bequest to John D. Shipman to be his and at his disposal absolutely forever. * And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my grandson Hayes F. Shipman my lawful executor to all intents and purposes. To execute this my last will and testament according to the true intents and meaning of the same and every part thereof. Hereby revoking and declaring to be utterly void all other wills and testaments by me made heretofore. Shipman who was appointed executor to the last will and testament of the said John Wingate dec'd. is dead. It is ordered that Haynes Lennon be appointed administrator Cine Testamento Annexo on giving bond in the sum of Two Thousand Dollars with Richard Wooten and D.J.
