This is a short Transcription of the Deposition of Ann Williams, widow of Benjamin Williams of Smithville, Brunswick Co., NC. On the 7 March 1839 in the District of Charleston, SC; Mrs. Ann Williams age 84 a former resident of NC made declaration that she is the widow of Benjamin Williams, dec’d formerly of Smithville, NC & joined a company of light horse in Brunswick County. Deponent shortly after removed to Duplin County & joined another company of horse. During the war he was promoted to Lieutenant in Col. Howe’s Regiment. He served at the Battle of Cross Creek in NC, Briar’s Creek & attached to the 2nd Reg. NC Continental Line. Her husband’s 2 brothers also served. She was married to her husband Benjamin Williams at her father’s house in NC by a Presbyterian Minister in May 1774, having been entered into the Bible and copied there from because the said Bible was nearly destroyed by fire & eventually decayed away; about 30 years ago, entered into a large Prayer Book now in her possession & that her husband the said Benjamin Williams died in the year 1817 at Smithville, NC & shortly after she removed to her present location. Died in the Seventh year of her age. Simpson WILLIAMS, son of Benjamin WILLIAMS & Ann his wife, born the 31 October 1779. Daniel WILLIAMS, son of Benjamin WILLIAMS & Ann his wife, born in the year 1781. Died in the Fourteenth year of his age. Benjamin WILLIAMS, son of Benjamin WILLIAMS & Ann his wife, born the 11 May 1783. Died in the Fifth year of his age. Elizabeth WILLIAMS, daughter of Benjamin WILLIAMS & Ann his wife, born the 8 December 1785. Died in the Third year of her age. Joseph WILLIAMS son of Benjamin WILLIAMS & Ann his wife, born the 8 Dec. 1790. Died in the Fourteenth year of his age. Susannah WILLIAMS, daughter of Benjamin WILLIAMS & Ann his wife, born the 19 September 1797.
