Potts and son, Master Junius, of Lake Waccamaw, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Carson, on West Morehead street. Capt. Potts owns a beautiful place on Lake Waccamaw. It is a noted resort for fishermen and hunters. Captain Potts is so clever and hospitable that strangers are oft within his gates. Mr. and Mrs. Carson have spent several summers at Lake Waccamaw. Charlotte Daily Observer 18 Jan 1898 Operator to Gen. Lee Capt. Sam Potts and son, of Lake Waccamaw, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Carson, returned home Sunday morning. Capt. Potts was chief operator to General Lee. He was who sent the message ordering the evacuation of Richmond, which order he has a copy of. Captain Potts is a man of great versatility of talents. He can do anything that any one else can. He's a genius. Charlotte Daily Observer 16 Dec 1898 Several Ducks and a Deer Messrs. P.P. Zimmerman and Thomas and Miles Pegram have regurned from a trip of a few days to Lake Waccamaw, Columbus County. They were hunting ducks and deer. The result of the hunt was several ducks and one deer. Mr. Zimmerman wounded the latter in a hunt Wednesday afternoon and the dogs caught it. They were well pleased with the Lake Waccamaw section. Mr. Samuel Potts, the railroad agent there, entertained the hunters.
