Tues, Oct. 21, 1806
  Died, on Thursday last, at Baldhead, MR. HENRY LONG. The circumstances 
attending the demise of this respectable old gentleman are truly distressing, 
and from the different verbal accounts we have heard, we reluctantly relate 
the woeful tale, lest we may wrongfully injure the feelings of the families 
and friends of the parties or add to the already poignant grief of the 
unfortunate instrument of hs death.
  All agree, however, in stating that MR. JOSEPH SWAIN, son-in-law of the 
deceased, being been reduced to indigent circumstances and unable to support 
his family, which consisted of two or three little children, had for many 
months past, lived with MR. LONG, on whose benefice alone they all 
subsisted --. That on Thursday afternoon MR. SWAIN took his gun and went out 
with an intention of shooting deer or wild hogs; and some time afterwards, MR. 
LONG went out, with his gun, but in a different direction to the course which 
SWAIN had taken -- that in the dusk of the evening, SWAIN having killed 
nothing, left his stand and was about to return home, but at that instant, 
hearing some noise in the bushes at the distance of about 25 steps from him, 
and supposing it to be occasioned by the approach of game, he returned and 
stood some time at the stand. -- The noise continued -- and fearful of losing 
his game, he leveled his piece in the direction from whence the noise 
proceeded, and fired, but instead of a deer or a wild hog, it was his father-
in-law, his benefactor, the worthy MR. LONG who received the whole charge in 
his bowels and almost instantly expired.
