Dept. of Archives & History, Raleigh, N.C New Hanover County wills 1732 - 1864 In the Name of God Amen I Robert Potter of the County of New Hanover in the province of North Carolina Joyner, being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same, & calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life, and it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this to be my last will & testament. That is to say, principly & first of all, I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, And my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named. And as touching such worldly estate as it hath Pleased God to endow me with I give & dispose of, In manner and form following. Imprimus I give and bequeath unto Mary my beloved wife, all my cattle, horses, & hogs, together with all my household furniture, & my negroe fellow London. ITEM- I give & bequeath unto my son John, his heirs and assigns forever, four hundred acres of land lying on Rock Fish Creek on the North East River of Cape Fear. ITEM- I give & bequeath unto my son John his heirs & assigns forever, one hundred & seventy five acres of land on Old Town Creek, joyning the Plantation that formerly belonged to Josiah Bell. ITEM- I give & bequeath unto my son Miles his heirs & assigns forever, two hundred acres of land on Old Town Creek lying on a branch called Russell's Branch. ITEM- I give & bequeath unto my son Robert his heirs and assigns forever the Plantation whereon I now live, at the decease of my beloved wife. ITEM- I will that my tract of land on Rattlesnake containing three hundred & forty five acres, may be sold, & the money equally divided between my three daughters, Viz: Mary, Margarit, & Elizabeth. And I do hereby constitute & appoint Mary my beloved wife executrix, and John & Robert my sons executors to this my last will & testament.
