BUBCOMBE COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - Land Grant to Joseph Sorrells, 18 Apr 1798 ----¤¤¤¤---- North Carolina Land Grant Deed 899 to Joseph Sorrells, recorded in Buncombe County Deed Book 4, page 584, 18 April 1798: "State of North Carolina, No. 899. To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting. Know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted, paid into our Treasury by Thomas Forster & Joseph Sorrells a tract of land containing fifty acres lying and being in the County of Buncombe on the West side of Pigeon River opposite to the flowery garden. Beginning at a maple on the bank of the River at a shoal and runs South twenty degrees West seventy six poles to a white oak, thence South sixty five West thirty two poles to a black oak, thence thirty five East forty eight poles to a stake on the bank of the River, thence North seventy two East one hundred poles to a stake, thence down the river including its different meanders to the Beginning. Entered the 18th of APRIL 1798. As by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances to the said land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Thomas Forster & Joseph Sorrels their heirs and assigns forever. Yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct, Provided always that the said Grantee shall cause this grant to be registered in the Registers office of our said County of Buncombe within twelve months from the date hereof, otherwise the sum shall be void and of no effect. In testimony Whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent and our Grate Seal to be hereunto affixed. He was the husband of Millie Sorrells, both of Virginia, and was the son of Sarah Sorrells.
