BUBCOMBE COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - Joseph Sorrells to Reuben Moody, 1 Mar 1802 ----¤¤¤¤---- A Buncombe County deed, later recorded in Haywood County Deed Book A, p. 353, Grantor Joseph Sorrells, Grantee Reuben Moody, 1802: "This indenture made the first day of March one thousand eight hundred and two between Joseph Sorrells of the County of Buncombe and State of North Carolina of the one part and Reuben Moody of the said County and State aforesaid of the other part doth witness that the said Joseph Sorrells for the sum of four hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Reuben Moody before the signing and delivering of these presents the receipt hereof he doth fully acknowledge that he hath bargained, sold, delivered in fee of and conveyed to the said Reuben Moody in open market all one certain tract or parcel of land lying in our county of Buncombe and on a branch known by the name of Chambers Branch. Beginning on a white oak on the East side of the branch and runs thence South two hundred and forty poles to a white oak, thence West two hundred poles to a stake, thence North two hundred and forty poles to a stake, thence East crossing the branch to the beginning, being the said tract which Joseph Sorrells bought of John Strother. "To have and to hold to the said Reuben Moody or his certain attorney, heirs, executors, administrators or assigns, the land and premises aforesaid together with all ways, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Reuben Moody and of his assigns forever clear and disencumbered from all deeds, dues, claims or demands of all men or manner of persons claiming right or title to the said land, the State Tax to become due only excepted but from all other lawful claims, I will warrant and forever defend to the said Moody and his heirs or assigns or an indefensible estate of inheritance in fee simple forever. In witness I the said Joseph Sorrells have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal his day and date first above written, signed, sealed and delivered in the presents of us.
