Madam: I ahve to advise you, that the records of this Bureau show, that Warrant No. 1504, for three hundred acres of bounty land was issued May 29, 1792, to Walter Stewart, assignee, on account of the services in the War of the Revolution, of Captain Henry Moss of the Virginia Line. There is no further data on file as to this soldier and no data as to family, owing to the destruction of papers in such claims when the War Office was burned in November, 1800. Daniel Huntington, West Virginia Henry Moss BLWt 1504 Dear Sir: reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War records of William Moss of Sussex County, Virginia, Henry Moss, who served as 3nd Lieutenant, January 13,1777, July 11, 1777, was taken prisoner at Charleston, May 14, exchanged April 1781, was captain May 26, 1781 and retired January 1, 1783, and John Moss, 1st lieutenant, Captain, September 15, 1778, resigned December 18, 1777. There are no claims for pension or bounty land on file based upon service in the Revolutionary War of the above noted officer, John Moss of Virginia, nor any William Moss. The records of this office show that warrant # 1504 for 300 acres of bounty land was issued May 29, 1792 to Walter Stewart, assignee, on account of service of Henry Moss, Captain on the Virginia Line, War of the Revolution. There are no further data regarding the above noted officer [almost entire line illegible] claims for bounty land when the War Office was burned in 1800. If you desire information regarding the location of said bounty land, you should apply to the Commissioner of General Land Office, this city, and furnish that offical the number of warrant, acreage and date of issuance, as given herein.
