Mr. Lloyd Harold "Pete" Barnwell, Sr., 78, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on 
Tuesday November 4, 2003, at Summer's Landing Retirement Home.

Mr. Barnwell, a native of Buncombe County, N.C., was born September 28, 1925, the 
son of the late Joshua Hall and Cora Lee Marr Barnwell. He was a World War II 
veteran of the United States Navy and United States Marines during the Korean 
Conflict. He was a retired pilot with the crop dusting industry and a member of 
Douglas First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Pamela B. Griggs and husband, Steve, of 
Marietta, Ga., and Joy Barnwell and Jenny Lott and husband, David, all of 
Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Hal Barnwell and wife, Joyce, and Sage Barnwell and wife, 
Cindy, all of Douglas, Ga.; two brothers, Edward Barnwell of Black Mountain, 
N.C., and James Barnwell of Sylva, N.C.; nine grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Thursday, November 6, 2003, at 4 p.m., at Sims 
Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Special music was 
provided by soloist Janie Andrews who sang "One Day at a Time" and "Amazing 
Grace," with Lois Mills accompanying at the piano.

Sims Funeral Home of Douglas, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.

There is a chapter in our book on Lloyd H. “Pete” Barnwell.  He was from GA and 
came up to Wakefield Airport each year as a crop duster.  He spent several months 
a year here and our community loved him.  We would love for his family to know 
about the book and also the cover is a painting of his plane.
