William Hardy, aid to Col. Kershaw of S. C., who was killed at Manassas, was a son of Dr. J. F. E. Hardy of Asheville, N. C. He had served as aid to Col. Kershaw since the moment when the bombardment of Fort Sumter was anticipated. He has two brothers in the service at Yorktown, one a Lieutenant and the other Assistant Surgeon, in the 1st N. C.
