Asheville Citizen: Rufus Jackson, colored, was run over and killed about noon
today by a switch engine on the Asheville yards of the Southern. Jackson was
walking along and seeing a train approaching from one direction stepped, it is
said, immediately in front of the switch engine which was running on a sidetrack
in an opposite direction. Jackson's body was badly mangled, and death resulted
instantaneously. The dead man worked near the depot and had a family.
