The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 4 January 1898
An Asheville special to the Charlotte Observer says: Saturday Budford Early,
living near Fairview, this county, went out of his house to shoot a guinea. As
he fired, the 15 year old son of James McBee, a neighbor, got in range of the
shot, and the contents of Early's gun struck him in the back, making a would
from which the boy died yesterday. The shooting was purely accidental.
