Charlotte Observer: Special to the Observer, Asheville, September 6
Mrs Sallie Smith, age 73 years, was struck by a train yesterday afternoon while
crossing the Southern railway near Pearson's bridge. Her injuries were so severe
that she died a short time after the accident occurred.
