SPRINKLE BLACKVILLE, SC – Bob J. Sprinkle, 67, died Sunday, February 3, 2002 at his home in Blackville, SC, after a long bout with cancer. Born in Asheville, he was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Joe A. Sprinkle. He graduated from Emma High School in Asheville, Mars Hill College and attended George Washington University. During his career in electronic design, he served as engineering manager for WABCO and retired as senior electronic design engineer for AVTEC in Gilbert. He was instrumental in the development of communication systems used by airlines and railroads worldwide, as well as an expert in the design of locomotive radios. An avid amateur radio operator, KA4WET, he was a member of the DX Century Club, earned by making contact with other stations in at least 100 different countries. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Blackville First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Burleson Sprinkle of the home; a son, Douglas Sprinkle of Rapid City, SD; a brother and sister-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Larry Sprinkle of Asheville; mother-in-law, Mrs. Louise P. Burleson of Newland; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Flora Ann and Lawrence Boone of Newland; two nieces; five nephews; and special five-year friend, Caroline Joy Avera of Barnwell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Sprinkle of Mims, FL, and brother-in-law, George E. Burleson of Newland. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blackville First Baptist Church. Revs. Lindsay Inman and Larry Sprinkle officiated. Burial was at 1 p.m. Thursday in Yellow Mountain Cemetery in Plumtree with Rev. Wallace Wise officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. at Folk Funeral Home in Williston, SC.
