Born in Asheville, N.C., he had lived in Hampton since 1957. After he attended Virginia Tech, he graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College. He served in the USAF during the Vietnam War and then moved back home where he owned and operated Hampton Roads Batteries, Inc. Mr. Whittington was a member of Hampton Moose Lodge #1514. Survivors include his wife, Shirley White Whittington; three sons, Mark Whittington and his wife, Brandy of Sterling, Michael Whittington of Hampton and Mathew Whittington of Hampton; one sister, Patricia Gary of Hampton; and three nephews, Timothy Gary, Brad Whittington and Aaron Whittington. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel with Aaron Whittington officiating. Burial with Moose Rites at the graveside will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
