ROCK CHURCH CEMETERY

African-American

Burke County, NC

I cannot give good directions to this cemetery. Go to Lake James and find 
Highway NC-126 and go west across the Canal Bridge. Follow NC-126 for three or 
so miles and find a gravel road going off to the left as you are going around 
a left turn in NC-126. A little ways down this gravel road you will find a 
locked gate. It will be up to you to get permission to open the gate and drive 
down the After going through the gate follow the trail about a mile and a half 
and find a small cabin on the left. Just past the cabin take the trail to the 
right and the cemetery will be on the right after a few hundred feet. I 
understand that this is an African-American cemetery. I was there June 5, 
2001. This cemetery is on the USGS map for the area. I am sure that I missed a 
few markers. There are many marked with fieldstones.
