Hastings BA-J/MCS House of Representative James Blair, S. 22125 Washington D.C. My dear Mr. Hastings Reference is made to your request for the Revolutionary War record of James Blair. The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim, S. 22125, based upon the military service of James Blair. He was born March 6, 1761, in Augusta County, Virginia. While a resident of Burke County, North Carolina, he enlisted in 1778 and served at various times until the close of the Revolution, as orderly sergeant, ensign and Indian spy under Captains James Richardson, Peter Ford, Barnett, John Boman, Andrew Hampton, Barton, William Gray Norwood, and Welborn, and Colonels Joseph McDowell, Hampton, Hambright, Cleveland, and Dugan. He was wounded in the shoulder by the Tories while on duty as an express rider and he was at the battles of Pacolet River,Sumters Defeat, Cane Creek, Kings Mountain, Blackstocks, and the siege of Augusta. He also served as captain for eleven months under Generals Pickens and Anderson during an Indian War. He was allowed pension on his application executed October 16, 1827, while residing in Habersham County, Georgia. He had previously lived in Ray County, Tennessee, Pendleton District, South Carolina, and Franklin County Georgia. The papers in this claim contain no data relative to the soldier's family. The above noted is the history of the only soldier named James Blair who was from the vicinity of Chester South Carolina, that is found in the Revolutionary War records of this office.
