BURKE COUNTY, NC - MILITARY - Samuel Parks, Revolutionary War Pension Application Abstract ----¤¤¤¤---- PARKS - Pensions Extracted by Mary Lu Johnson PARKS, SAMUEL, NC Line, RWS #S8937. 23 October 1844, Samuel Parks decd, State of NC, a Private in the Revolution for two years, inscribed on roll at Fayetteville, $80.00 per month, from March 4, 1831 to 23 Oct 1844 when he died. 14 ____ 1854 Certificate of pension sent to Hon. T. S. Clingman, House of Reps. Samuel Parks' Certificate of Pension payable to John S. Parks, Executor, for the benefit of "himself", Wm Parks, George Parks, Benjamin Parks, Polly Alexander, Elizabeth Penland, Gabriel Parks, Ransom Parks and Martin Parks, his only surviving children. 11 or 17 of November 1851, Burke Co., NC affidavit of John S. Parks, son of Samuel, states he believes Samuel was a resident of Wilkes Co., NC when he enlisted; served as private in Capt. Lewis' Company and he believes in the Regiment commanded by Col. Cleavland in the Militia service of NC. States his father died 23 October 1844. s/s John S. Parks November 1851, Burke Co., NC, affidavit of Thos Carlton, a Clergyman and Alexander Perkins knew soldier to have served in the Revolution, and that he was a very old man when he died, of good character. 15 September 1853, Burke Co., NC, affidavit of Elizabeth Pendland, a daughter of Samuel Parks, appoints Daniel R. Goodloe of Washington City as attorney to secure any back due pension. Undated Bureau of Pensions form states Samuel Parks served two years as Private under Capts. Lewis, [?dim, can't read] and Lenoir; Col. Cleaveland. Lived Wilkes Co., NC at enlistment. Son John S. Parkes applied for pension 11 Nov 1851. Soldier's wife died before he did, her name is not stated.
