He enjoyed his health until a short time before his death. Mr. Davenport was remarkable for a cheerful disposition and for benelovence of heart; it is said he never was involved in a law suit but once, and then by being security for a debt, he was sued and compelled to pay the money. In the latter part of his life he appeared to enjoy the comforts of religion in a high degree. He raised six daughters and one son. His eldest daughter, Sophia, the wife of William White, Esq. of the Mulberry in the county of Burke, hath at this time upwards of one hundred of her posterity living; and it has been ascertained that from Thomas Davenport, counting him as the first, there are more than forty of his posterity now living of the 5th generation. Thomas Davenport's five youngest children each raised large families, and it is computed that the posterity of those five now living amount to more than three hundred.
