Raleigh Standard - 12 Oct. 1859
   DIED, at his residence, Quaker Meadows, near Morganton, on the 5th inst., 
after a brief illness, from pneumonia, CAPT. CHARLES MCDOWELL, in the 74th 
year of his age.
   The deceased was a son of COL. CHARLES MCDOWELL, so distinguished as an 
intrepid officer of the American Revolution, and during his long life, from 
boyhood to the grave, maintained the most unsullied reputation for benevolence 
of heart, unflinching courage and the strictest honesty.
