Whisenant was conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Purviance Funeral chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. R. Berkley Garnett. Burial will be in Ivor cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Rawls, Fenton Worrell, Branch Bailey, Marvis Felts, Edgar Vick Stephenson, James Clark, J.J. Bradshaw, Dempsie Britt, Leonard Atkinson and Noah Joyner. Whisenant, 61, died in a Suffolk hospital Sunday after a brief illness. A native of Morganton, N.C., he was a son of Walter and Mrs. Mytie Powell Whisenant. He was a sawyer. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Reldy Mull Whisenant; three daughters, Mrs. B.R. Copeland of Windsor, Mrs. C.C. Archer of Petersburg, and Miss Margie Whisenant of Petersburg; eight sons, Levi Whisenant and R. Russell Whisenant of Morganton, George T. Whisenant Jr. of Amsterdam, N.Y., Willis W. Whisenant, Conley J. Whisenant, and M. Toy Whisenant of Ivor; seven sisters, Mrs. Virginia W. Lambert, Mrs. Lois W. Crump, Mrs. Rebecca W. Benfield, Mrs. Annie W. Evans, Mrs. Bessie W. Powell, Mrs. Sallie W. Whisenant, and Mrs. Herbert Watson of Charlottesville; four brothers, Walter Whisenant Jr., Pink Whisenant and Theodore W. Whisenant of Morganton and Holbert Whisenant of Washington, N.C.; and 24 grandchildren.
