JOSEPH B. WILLIAMS DIED DAUGHTER'S HOME
Aged Citizen and Old Confederate Veteran Passes
  Joseph B. Williams died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bertha Allman August
27, 1930.
  Mr. Williams was born in Union county October 6, 1841, and was therefore,
nearing his 89th birthday.  He was an old Confederate veteran and fought in the
Civil war.  He was married to Jane Eliza Cox October 22, 1865.  She died August
19, 1909.  Surviving are one brother, Mr. Jim Williams of Morganton, and six
children: Mr. B. C. Williams, Mr. R. W. Williams, Mr. J. A. Williams, Mrs. L. M.
Puckett, Mrs. H. B. Allman, all of Morganton and Mrs. K. F. Collins of Hickory.
 35 grandchildren and 33 great-grand-children also survive.
  Funeral services were held Thursday morning at Smyrna church, conducted by
Rev. C. P. Hill.  His body was laid to rest at the Smyrna cemetery.
