The Last Will and Testament of Carter Orders - June 11, 1866

Know all men by these presents that I CARTER ORDERS of the County of Burke and 
State of North Carolina a farmer being in ill health and of sound and disposing 
mind and memory do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament hereby 
revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made and as to my worldly 
estate and all the property real personal as ????? of which I shall die seized 
and possessed as to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease. I 
demise bequeat and dispose thereof in the following manner to wit: My will is 
that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall by my executor hereinafter 
named be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by them be 
found convenient.
   Item First: I give devise and bequeath to my Daughter SARAH ORDERS one half 
of all my estate to her the said SARAH ORDERS her heirs exutors administrators 
to her and their use and benefit forever. I give and devise and bequeath to my 
Grandson LITTLETON ORDERS all my carpenter tools and the division or remainder 
of my estate ???? I give and bequeath to my Wife BETSEY. One dollar to my Son 
TIMOTHY ORDER, one dollar to my Daughter ELIZA ORDERS, one dollar to my Daughter 
AMY ANN HALL, one dollar to my Daughter JANE ROPER, one dollar  to be paid by my 
executor as soon as he thinks convenient I make it my will and agreement that 
Lize Avery (colored) is to have the use of my stock to work and all my farming 
tools and wagon until the present crop of corn is laid by and lastly I do 
nominate and appoint James B. Marler to be the executor of this my last will and 
testament in witness whereof I the said CARTER ORDERS have to this my last will 
and testament contained on one sheet of paper to which I have subscribed my name 
and affixed my seal this the Eleventh day of June in the year of our Lord One 
Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Six

Signed sealed and declared by the said CARTER ORDERS as an for his last will and 
testament in the presence of we who at his request and in his presence and in 
the presence of each other have subscribed our name as witness thereto.
