Bute County, NC - William Askew Revolutionary War Pension, 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~ April 5, 1937 Mrs. Minna Scott Hyman San Antonio, Texas Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter relative to James Askew, John Askew, Obdiah Askew, Thomas Askew, William Askew, and Samuel Stalinaker, soldiers of the Revolutionary War. Revolutionary War data furnished by this office are obtained from claims made to the United States for pension and bounty land based upon military service of soldiers in that war. A careful search of the records fails to show such a claim on file on account of the services of John Askew, Obediah Askew, or any Thomas Askew, all spellings of the names searched. The record of the only William Askew that is found on the Revolutionary War records of this office is furnished you herein as found in the papers on file in the claim for pension S.8038 based upon service in that war. The date and place of birth and the names of the parents of William Askew are not shown. William Askew enlisted in Bute County (later Franklin County) North Carolina in July 1775 and served four months as private in Captain James Richard's Company, Colonel Benjamin Seawell's North Carolina Regiment. He enlisted in 1776 and served three months as private in Captain Coates' Company, Colonel Coleman's North Carolina Regiment. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 11, 1832 while a resident of Franklin County, North Carolina, aged ninety- three years. There are no family data. Very truly yours, A.D.
