Cabarrus County, NC - Benjamin R. Voiles Bible

Letter written from Jesse Creth Voiles to his brother Jacob 
Michael Voiles in Decatur County, Indiana.  In this letter 
Jesse gives all the births that were in the family Bible 
belonging to Benjamin Reece Voiles, b Dec 1802 Cabarrus County, 
North Carolina, d 12 Jun 1854 Decatur County, Indiana.
 
The family placed the original letter in the library in 
Greensberg, Decatur County, Indiana; but they do not have the 
original Bible.  Jesse Creth Voiles had it at one time.  He 
lived in Missouri and Kansas, and before he died he moved in 
with his daughter Mattie Susan Voiles and her husband John Myron 
Jones in Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington.  This couple had 
one son and one daughter, but no one in the family knows where 
the Bible is now.

Benjamin Voiles was the son of Thomas Voiles/Voyles and Sarah 
Shinn.  The Voiles/Voyles family lived in the part of Mecklenburg 
County, North Carolina, which became Cabarrus County, North 
Carolina, in 1792.  All of Benjamin's children were born in 
Decatur County, Indiana.  Benjamin Reece Voiles was the son of 
Benjamin Voiles, b 1772 Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and 
Hester/Esther Seals, b 1773 Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, 
d 20 Jan 1859 Rushville, Rush County, Indiana.  She was buried 
in Hopewell Cemetery, Milroy, Rush County, Indiana, under the 
name of Hester Boling.  She married her second husband James 
Thomas Boling on 22 Aug 1814 in Washington County, Kentucky.  
He is also buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Milroy, Rush County, 
Indiana.
 
This letter was written from Half Rock, Mercer Co. MO, and it is 
dated April 11, 1877.

this is a trew record as it was in the old bible, you will see that 
some of them have not the day of the month that they were born on    
mothers death was never put on the bible   she died April 1863 if I 
am not mistaken  [contributor's note:  Jessie's mother Orpha E. 
Michael died between the first of April and the 7th of April, 1863]
 
Dear brother and sister this leaves us well as comon and we hope 
these few lines may find you the same   your letter with one that 
we got from John the same day brought grate sorrow to us the death 
of our dear sister   the last time I saw her I left her a crying 
becaus I was coming west   she looked as much like living a long 
life as any of us but alas I shal never see her any more in this 
world   had I [sae?] new she was so nere her death I would have 
come and saw her rite and tell me where she is berryed at and who 
preached her funerel   I saw a letter that rece [Reece] got from 
william he said her funerel was preached before she was berried  
well  Jacob you said that times was hard out there I believe that 
is the cry every wher every thing is low here except cattle they 
bring a good price  hogs are worth 3 dollars per hundred  corn 15 
[-?] 20 cts  oats 15   I will close this time write soon
