Cabarrus County, NC - Allen Furr Memories Memory of Allen Furr Allen Furr (b. 21 Jul 1820, d. 9 Mar 1873) Burial: Center Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Cabarrus County, NC From Bobby Harwood, "Personal interview with Carl Dexter Blackwelder, ggrandson of Allen gave me these notes on abt. 1990. As already noted from Rev. Albrights book about the great strength of Allen was told to Carl from his grandfather, Wilson Mathias Furr that he in fact could drink from the bung hole of a 50 gal. keg. Once when his wagon busted a wheel crossing Rocky River he carried it on his back a great distance to have it repaired while his son Wilson Mathias stayed with the mules. Allen once won a bet he could hold some huge timbers over his head while serving in the Civil War so he could get a 30 day leave. Allen did not have to serve in the war but volunteered. He was wounded in the bowels while serving & Wilson Mathias said he made a whistling sound as he breathed. Wilson Mathias also said his father rode back on the same white horse he rode off to war on." ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
