MARTIN SHIVE We regret to have to announce the death of CAPT. MARTIN SHIVE of Cabarrus County, attached to the North Carolina Regiment of Volunteers. The melancholy event is announced in the following letter from LIEUT. ARRA to THOMAS S. HENDERSON, Esq. at Concord, N. C. "Camp Buena Vista, Mexico 2 0'clock Monday Morning, Aug. 16, 1847 Dear Sir, I write these few lines in haste (in order to get it into the mail, which will leave very early this morning for Monterey) the painful intelligence of the death of our CAPTAIN SHIVE. He died about 12 o'clock last night, with Typhoid pneumonika. He was sick only two days. Our Captain was a good officer, and I believe a brave man. Please forward this to his family as soon as possible. We will bury him so, if necessary, he can be raised againm and I will mark the spot of ground. H. A. ARRA N. B. The last words he spoke were "Onward Boys and discharge the duty before you."
