A Remarkable Negro

Derrick Alexander, who was a slave of Mr. John R. Alexander, father of T.L. 
Alexander, was in town from Cabarrus county today. Derrick is 73 years old and 
is the father of 23 children, 14 of whom are living. He has been married 
twice. He had 17 children by his first wife and 6 by his last. There were 
eight twins born to him. His youngest child is 11 months old. His oldest twin 
daughter is the mother of six sets of twins.
