There was no one at home but two young boys. The older one does the cooking, and having been confined to his bed from the effects of a severe chill, asked the unfortunate child to kindle the fire. The child picked up the oil can and began pouring oil on a bed of half dead coals. In an instant there was a terrible explosion, sprinkling oil over the clothes of the child, and in less than a second he was a mass of flames. The boy ran into the yard screaming, when the dogs became frightened and bit him several times upon the legs. The boy ran until he fell from exhaustion and pain. After being carried to the house, he died within two hours. His burnt charred body was a ghastly sight. His clothing was burned entirely off, excepting the shirt collar."
