Mrs. William Brown murdered by her husband William Brown on 15 June 1838, both
from the neighborhood of Concord, NC.  “Horrid Murder – From the AR Gazette,
June 27 1838”, murder in Pope Co AR.  According to the testimony of William
Brown’s children, he had threatened his wife on the morning of the murder.  “In
a few minutes she looked in the direction of the house to see the muzzle of a
rifle pointed at her, she received the contents (2 balls) between her breasts. 
The children [not named] fled to the neighbors at Dardanelle, [AR] about 3 miles
from the house.   When they arrived back at the scene, the brutal murderer had
laid the victim on the bed, washed the blood from her, and drank himself
stupidly drunk.   His weapons were secured, himself seized and bound.  The body
was buried at Dardanelle, [AR], followed by the manacled murderer who showed no
remorse.”  They “were the father and mother of five children, the oldest 14 and
the youngest 2 years old.”; notice published in the German Reformed newspaper 08
Aug 1838.
