Death of Mr. J. R. Benfield Aged and Well Known Citizen Passed Away Early Last Thursday Morning Mr. J. R. Benfield, an aged and prominent citizend of the Bain Mill section, died last Thursday morning about 3 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. B. Alexander, of Kannapolis in his 78th year. Mr. Benfield was born January 26, 1844. He was a Confederate veteran, and served throughout the war in Company 8, 35th North Carolina regiment of which the late Mr. D. A. Caldwell was captain. He leaves three sons and one daughter, namely: Mr. R. C. Benfield of Concord, Mr. M. W. Benfield of Kannapolis, and Mr. D. G. Benfield, of Fairburn, GA, and Mrs. Alexander. He leaves two brothers, Messrs D.E. and M. W. Benfield, of Mecklenburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary McConnell of Cornelius, and Mrs. Amanda Reese of Iredell county, near Mooresville. He leaves 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mr. Benfield was a good citizen and will be much missed in his community. He was for many years a faithful member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The burial took place Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Oakwood cemetery here, and the service was conducted by Rev. M R. Gibson, pastor of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church here. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
