Cabarrus County, NC - Obituary of Nannie Smith Brown, 1934 Tuesday June 26, 1934 edition of Concord, NC, newspaper: Brown-Funeral Was Held Here Monday Morning The Well Known Concord Woman Was Laid to Final Rest in Oakwood Cemetery Yesterday Mrs. Nannie Smith Brown, one of Concord’s oldest and most beloved women, died Saturday evening at 6:45 o’clock. Although Mrs. Brown had been ill for the past two weeks, her death came as a surprise. She suffered a stroke of paralysis about four years ago and never completely recovered. She was born on December 11, 1853, in Rowan county, the daughter of William and Sara Smith. Before her marriage on April 17, 1888, to George W. Brown, member of a prominent Cabarrus family, she was the widow of M.A. Bencini, father of Mrs. M.M. Linker, with whom she was residing at the time of her death. Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in which she played an active part up until the time of her affliction. The funeral was held Monday at 11 o’clock. Dr. W.E. Davis, pastor of First Presbyterian church, officiated. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Porter, M.F. Ritchie, H.C. Warren, J.B. Linker., Dr. T.N. Spencer and O.J. Dayvault. Besides Mrs. Linker, two step daughters, Miss Mollie Brown and Mrs. H.W. Calloway, and four grandchildren survive. ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
