Cabarrus County, NC - Obituary of Rev. Rufus Franklin Bryant, 1939 CONCORD (North Carolina) Sept. 9, 1939 --- Rev. Rufus Franklin Bryant, 95, retired Methodist minister and last Confederate veteran residing in Cabarrus County, died at 11:30 o'clock Friday night at his home in No. 10 township after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Bethel Methodist Church, burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Services will be conducted by the pastor, W.B. Thompson, assisted by Rev. W.M. Heckard of Albermarle, and Dr. W. T. Bonds of Charlotte. Rev. Mr. Bryant, who had made his home in Cabarrus for a number of years, served with the Confederate army in 1863, 64 and 65 in Captain Tom Love's company. Later he entered the ministry, serving churches in several states, including North Carolina and South Carolina. He retired in 1912. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Mrs. Clara Bryant Botts of Maryland; three sons, Leith Bryant of Maryland, Jack Bryant of Landrum, South Carolina, and Cullen Bryant of the home.
