Lowder Obit August 6, 1973 Gunshot Fatal to Claude Lowder Claude Caldwell Lowder, 77, of 2305 S. Main St. died Sunday as a result of a pistol wound which downtown Kannapolis police said was self-inflicted. The shooting occurred at 2:15 p.m., police said. A bullet from a .38-caliber pistol entered Mr. Lowder’s right temple. Funeral services for Mr. Lowder will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s United Church of Christ by Rev. Mark Andes and Rev. Frank K. Bostian. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The body will remain at Whitley’s Funeral Home until time for rites, and family will receive friends there from 7 until 9 p.m. today. Mr. Lowder was a native of Stanly County, son of the late Daniel Monroe Lowder and Mrs. Julia Decker Lowder. He was employed in No. 2 weaving department at Connon Mills Plant 1 until his retirement in 1964. He had lived in Kannapolis since 1920 and was a member of St. John’s Church. He was an army veteran of World War I. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Cauble Lowder; two daughter, Mrs. Ernest Huffman of China Grove and Mrs. Richard Cress of Broadway; a son, Glenn C. Lowder of Landis; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Penninger of Morganton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
