The Southport Leader, 26 June 1890
Miss Maggie Maxwell, daughter of Washington Maxwell of Concord, was burned to
death last Saturday. She was in the house alone and in building a fire at noon
to cook dinner with, used kerosene to build the fire. In some way the flames
were carried to the oil can and an explosion was the result.
