He was a staunch Whig of the Revolution and an active and faithful soldier in the battles of independence. He was a lieutenant in Sumpter's Regiment, in a company commanded by WM. POLK. He was also a soldier under that brave officer, the late GEN. JOSEPH GRAHAM. He was in the battle of Eutaw and fought against the Tories of Ramsour's Mills. After the Revolution, he was an efficient and useful public servant; was a long time a Justice of the Peace, and served the County of Cabarrus in the House of commons, not long after its division from Mecklenburg. He lived a life of integrity and died with the firmness of a hero -- may he rest in peace.
