Cabarrus County, NC - Obituary of Ruth Blackwelder Overman, 1955 The Daily Independent, Kannapolis, NC, 9/28/1955 CONCORD - Ruth Blackwelder Overman, 99, of East Ridge, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 4, 2004, in a local health care facility. She was born in Concord on Oct. 31, 1904, to the late Lectie Furr Blackwelder and Carl Dexter Blackwelder Sr. She attended Concord High School. She was a former resident of Salisbury, having been in the Chattanooga area since 1960. She was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church in Salisbury. She loved homemaking and helping raise two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles Overman who died Feb. 6, 1951. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Daniel of East Ridge, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Sabrina Daniel and Marti Smith; two great grandchildren, Katie and Sarah Smith, both of Chattanooga; two sisters, Lillian Foster of Dallas, Tx. and Frieda Fisher of Concord. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Franklin Presbyterian Church in Salisbury. Dr. Larry Summey and the Rev. Dr. Carl Blackwelder will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the church. Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Franklin Presbyterian church Missions, 280 Franklin Church Drive, Salisbury, NC 28147.
