Dec. 1, 1837    Charlotte Journal
   DIED, in Cabarrus County, on the 12th ult., at the residence of his son, 
JOHN PHIFER, after a long and painful illness, COL. MARTIN PHIFER, in the 82nd 
year of his age. He has left a numeroous offspring to mourn his loss.-- Death 
hath terminated the early existence of one who bore a distinguished part in 
the struggle of American Independence, and one among the few, if not the last, 
of the officers of the Revolutionary Army belonging to the North Carolina 
Continental Line.
